A father’s journey of healing following the death of his daughter led to his founding of The Kaitlyn Bates Association for Personal Development and Self Esteem and, by extension, advocacy for young people deserving of the opportunity to attain their full potential.
A musician and songwriter, Doug Bates’ motivation for starting what is more commonly known as the The Kaitlyn Bates Initiative is rooted in his belief that young people deserve an environment that nurtures positive values and self-esteem. Thinking back, he says a conversation he had with his father was key to setting him on a new path.
Speaking to his efforts to raise both funds and awareness for various organizations, Bates echoes a familiar but sincere motivation heard from most all who give selflessly of their time and talents.
Whether he’s providing other support on a personal level or through the association of which he is chair, Bates says there’s one guiding principle that motivates him above all others.
