Northumberland Manufacturers’ Association has launched a new youth recognition program. It awards $500 to one graduating student at each of the five secondary schools in Northumberland County.
Students will be recognized for their studies in manufacturing and/or trades, community leadership and school spirit.
“Each one of us contributes to the inclusion of students/youth in their operations in some way, whether it be co-op, apprenticeship, mentorship, program support etc., said NMA President Fred Kossiem.
With the help of the School Board Awards Committee, students will be chosen based on these criteria:
• Demonstrated leadership and involvement in school and community activities for the benefit of others.
• Passionate about his or her field of study in manufacturing and/or trades, curious and willing to try new things.
• Genuinely interested in becoming involved and making a difference in the community. Student must also be continuing their studies in manufacturing and/or trades or entering directly into the local Northumberland workforce.
“We know post-graduation can be expensive – tuition, supplies, transportation or even work clothes/boots, tools and safety gear can add up. This award is to support the student as they embark on a path towards employment in the manufacturing sector” said NMA Executive Director
Darla Price.
Student Awards will be given out during graduation in June.
