Quinte West Police has made an arrest involving 8 Wing Trenton’s commander Colonel Leif Dahl following a hunting incident.
On August 25, Quinte West OPP for a complaint of a firearm being discharged from a boat. It was reported to police that protected wildlife was being targeted.
During further investigation it was learned that a firearm was thrown into the canal before police arrived on the scene. The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was dispatched to assist in its recovery. An investigation led to a person being arrested.
Commander Colonel Leif Dahl was charged for the following offences:
– Obstruct peace officer
– Careless use of firearm
– Use firearm carelessly to hunt – Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
– Hunt bird without a license
– Unlawfully have a loaded firearm in conveyance
The accused was released from custody with a pending court date in Belleville on September 28th.
The investigation is ongoing.
