Jason Blake was evicted from a residence on Division Street on July 28th when the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit issued an Order to placard the dwelling, citing health and safety issues.
Blake shared what happened next for him and why he’s been living rough.
Jason told us that rumours of harassment by County staff at the site are unfounded.
Blake suffers with diabetes and has been unable to take his medications since being evicted from Division street.
He’s hopeful though that services like Transition House will help him get back on track.
We also spoke with Jim Wayner, who we connected with first when he was at the encampment at West Beach.
Jim told us it’s moving day, again.
Like many in the encampment, Jim was displaced when their dwelling on Division Street was condemned.
The County says that support services, specifically Northumberland Hills Hospital Community Mental Health Services, Transition House Shelter, and Cobourg Police Homeless Addiction Resource Project (HARP), have been on-site regularly working to help those displaced.
