Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre (Cornerstone) has announced the return of Walk A Mile, now in its 16th year. This event, set to take place in downtown Cobourg on Saturday, October 14th, proudly welcomes Canadian Tire Cobourg and Post Consumer Brands as this year’s lead sponsors.
Canadian Tire Cobourg’s Sheila Pethick told us why they got involved.
Walk a Mile is one of Cornerstone’s signature events, bringing the community together to raise awareness and funds for Cornerstone’s vital programs and services. Over the past 15 years, the walk has collectively raised $499,991, directly benefiting local families in their journey to rebuild their lives after experiencing abuse. Walk A Mile is a family-friendly walk, open to anyone in any type of footwear.
Post Consumer Brand’s Rhonda Traill told us about the difference Cornerstone makes.
Nancy Johnston, Cornerstone’s Executive Director, expressed her excitement, saying, “We are very excited to be celebrating our 16th year of Walk A Mile. Every year, we look forward to seeing our community come together and show their support. That is what Walk A Mile is about—bringing neighbors, families, friends, and even pets together in a fun way and creating positive change to end gender-based violence.”

Cornerstone urges everyone to join them on October 14th to support women and children in the community impacted by gender-based violence and raise awareness about this critical issue.
Apart from the walk, the event will feature breakfast served by the Cobourg Lions Club, coffee from McDonald’s Cobourg, a fun photo area, and a First Responders Challenge to kick off the event. A registration fee of $20 for adults and $10 for those under 18 applies; however, walkers are encouraged to collect additional pledges to support Cornerstone.
Nancy Johnston told us the walk has two main goals.
Last year, Cornerstone provided essential services to over 1800 women, children, and youth through shelter, counseling, housing, and prevention programs. Walk A Mile plays a crucial role in funding these various programs and services, helping local families rebuild their lives after experiencing abuse. The community is encouraged to come out and show their support.
