Honoring and expressing gratitude to Veterans through acts of Remembrance is one of the most important ways Canadians can honour and thank Veterans for their sacrifices.
The Poppy has become a powerful symbol of Remembrance that we wear a as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed. The red flower also is the symbol of the Legion’s Poppy Campaign which raising funds to support Veterans and their families in need.
Brighton Legion’s Kathie Woodcox told us more about who benefits from poppy sales.
Woodcox also told us about the tradition of an overnight vigil at the Cenotaph.
At the beginning of the Poppy sales in Cobourg, First President Jennifer Robison told us about this year’s campaign.
Legion branches across Canada are provided just over two weeks for the year’s biggest fundraiser, and it’s a tribute to the Legion’s volunteers and the generousity of residents from across Canada that programs and services for veterans can be largely provided for by the proceeds of just 14 days work.
Robison says local businesses help in a big way, both by making room for Poppy boxes and more directly.
Below is a list of services happening across Northumberland County. On November 11th, wear your Poppy with pride and attend one of the services below if you are able and remember those who’ve gone before us.
