The U18 boys at the West Northumberland Curling Club are going to Provincials!
Coach of Team Johnston’s U18 Men’s division, Ian Young, says the team clutched a close game over the weekend to qualify for Curl ON Provincials in Ottawa next year.
Coach Young gave us the exciting play-by-play.
The team is comprised of Brodie Johnston playing Skip, Hobson McMaster as Vice, Nate Thomas as Second and Jacob Millward as Lead.
Over the past season, the team has faced opponents in Hamilton, Barrie, Dundas and beyond. Coach Young says he’s been with the club for a long time, but no team has qualified for this feat.
The team will head to Ottawa to play from Jan. 10 to Jan. 14.
Young is excited for the opportunity.
Young explained this opportunity can be costly for parents. Team Johnston is currently accepting support from the local community to send the team to Ottawa without a hitch.
