The Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce say they are ‘absolutely delighted’ to announce that Spoolon Manufacturing has been chosen as the recipient of the 2024 James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award.
The family owned and operated manufacturing business were chosen for their outstanding contribution to the local business community, with a familial history dating back to 1967. Mark Ito says they have been honoured.
“We are honoured and humbled to be recognized for such a prestigious award. Doing our part in this great community is something we feel strongly about. Part of what makes our community so great is that there are so many businesses who share the same philosophy,” says Ito, P. Eng, Spoolon Manufacturing Limited.
Co-Chair Wendy Sommerville also spoke about the achievement, saying their local involvement began shortly after director Bill Ito opened the plant’s doors.
“We’re absolutely delighted to recognize Spoolon with the prestigious James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award. A multi-generational family-owned and operated manufacturing business, Spoolon has been an active and engaged supporter of the community and a member of the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce since 1969,” says Sommerville.
The James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award, named after one of Cobourg’s earliest and most successful entrepreneurs, acts as a testament to their ‘unwavering commitment,’ according to Business Achievement Award Co-Chair Melissa Graham.

Winning the prestigious James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to your unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and your community. Here’s to celebrating your remarkable journey and the countless milestones yet to come,” says Graham.
Spoolon will be presented the award at the Business Achievement Awards on Friday, March 22 at the Best Western PLUS Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre.
