Former MP Kim Rudd was Northumberland-Peterborough South’s first member of parliament in the newly created riding in 2015.
Rudd passed after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer, loved ones confirmed Wednesday. She is being remembered by those whose lives she touched throughout her career.
Northumberland County Deputy Warden Olena Hankivsky called her a “renaissance” woman who made an impact as an educator, entrepreneur, Rotarian and politician.
Macklin said that Rudd’s passing leaves a large hole to fill in the community.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and current MP for Northumberland Peterborough South Philip Lawrence, who said her love for her community was evident during her time as MP.
Macklin expressed deep remorse after Rudd’s passing.
“Kim truly believed in Canada and in Canadians – and her generosity left a positive impact on thousands,” said Trudeau, in a statement after Rudd’s passing.
Macklin said Rudd was an incredible person who will be greatly missed.
Lawrence also called her “a dedicated parliamentarian” and said he was deeply saddened to hear the news of her death.
