After alleged incidents spanning multiple jurisdictions, Quinte West OPP say they’ve laid dangerous driving, flight from police and other charges.
On Thursday, May 30, Quinte West OPP issued a release saying last weekend – on May 25 – police responded to a traffic complaint of dangerous and erratic driving behaviour involving a stolen 2024 Toyota Tundra from the Toronto area.
After numerous traffic incidents, police allege the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot near the intersection of Colonial Drive and Harmer Road in Quinte West.
The OPP’s emergency response team, canine unit and OPP aviation unit assisted in searching the area. The accused was located and taken into custody, said police.
On Thursday, police said as a result of their investigation, a 19-year-old was charged with flight from peace officer, two counts of dangerous operation, failure to stop after accident and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused remained in custody with a bail hearing scheduled before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, reported OPP on Thursday afternoon.
