You’re invited to join in a “Heritage and History Hunt” in Brighton.
Through the event, residents can travel back in time until Aug. 31.
“Whether you’re a life-long resident or just passing through, it’s always fun to learn more about the places where you live, work, and/or play,” says the municipality.
“On this Heritage and History Hunt you’ll visit historical sites across the municipality, learning more about the historically significant locations, families, industries, and events that have shaped Brighton as we know it today.”
Here’s what you need to know to participate:
Step 1: Pickup or download and print a “clue card.”
The cards can also be found at the municipal office and Presqu’ile Provincial Park during regular business hours.
Step 2: Find the plaques. Using the clue card as your guide, find and visit at least 10 historical plaques. Rough locations of plaques are described in italics underneath the bolded title of each plaque on the card, noted the municipality.
More specific locations can be found using an interactive map available by scanning a QR code on the cards or online. (Of note: Participants don’t need to visit all locations in a day.)
Step 3: Answer historical questions. After finding plaques, record answers to the historical questions on the cards. Answers can be found in the information on plaques.
Step 4: Locate the “secret symbol.” To confirm you have visited each plaque, you will need to find and record the “secret symbol” located at each location in the appropriate clue card spot.
Step 5: Submit your clue card for review: Once you have completed at least 10 sentences and found 10 hidden symbols, you can submit your card for review by dropping it off at 35 Alice St. during business hours or upload a photo to Brighton’s digital Dropbox online.
Step 6: Claim your prize. Staff will review cards for correct answers. In exchange for 10 correct answers and 10 symbols, participants will be sent a coupon that can be redeemed at a local business for a prize.
Prizes include: A single-scoop ice cream cone from the Tin Roof Ice Creamery; a flavoured iced tea from Special Effects Lifestyle Boutique and Tearoom; cheese nachos from Gringo’s Railside; a medium iced latte from Lola’s Cafe, and/or deep-fried Oreos from Pollywogs.
