The Northumberland OPP crime unit is continuing to investigate after an assault at Warkworth Institution, which resulted in two individuals airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, say police.
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Northumberland OPP issued a release saying police are investigating an incident that occurred at the medium-security federal institution earlier this month.
The alleged incident dates back to June 10, 2024, at about 8:30 p.m., when police said they responded to a report of an assault involving a number of individuals.
As a result of the incident, police said Ornge Air transported one person to a local hospital, and another person to a Toronto-area hospital. Injuries to both individuals are described as serious, added police.
On Tuesday, police said forensic identification services (IDENT) also responded earlier to assist, and the crime unit is continuing with the investigation. Updates will be provided when available, added OPP.
