What started out as an initial dine and dash report has led Quinte West OPP to lay more than 20 charges, including firearm-related charges, say police.
On Monday, July 8, Quinte West OPP issued a release saying three people were facing multiple charges after police responded to a call about a theft on Sunday, July 7 from a local restaurant, where three parties allegedly left without paying, and stole tableware.
The individuals were also allegedly involved in a single-vehicle collision, with their vehicle leaving the road and entering the ditch, reported OPP.
On Monday, police said three people were arrested, and a loaded firearm was allegedly seized.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 26-year-old Oshawa resident was charged with: Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, theft under $5,000, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, food and lodging fraud, failure to comply with an undertaking, and passenger – fail to properly wear seatbelt.
Additionally, a 26-year-old Toronto resident was charged with: Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, theft under $5,000, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, food and lodging fraud, two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, failure to comply with undertaking, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and driver – fail to properly wear seatbelt.
Finally, a 19-year-old Clarington resident was charged with: Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, theft under $5,000, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, food and lodging fraud, failure to comply with a probation order, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and passenger – fail to properly wear seatbelt.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
All three of the accused remained in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled this week before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville, reported OPP, on Monday afternoon.
