Paddlers, get ready to make a splash!
On July 20, 2024, Parks Canada invites you to join the Lock & Paddle event, a mass paddling celebration held simultaneously at three national historic sites: Peterborough Lift Lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway, Hartwells Lock on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, and Lock 3 on the Lachine Canal in Montreal. This unique event is free and open to paddlers of all skill levels and backgrounds.
Since its inception in 2017, Lock & Paddle has become a signature event, best described as a “flash mob” of canoes and kayaks. This year, paddlers from across Ontario and Quebec will gather to celebrate these historic waterways. Participants can expect a day of fun, community, and a chance to connect with fellow paddling enthusiasts.
Each location will provide more detailed information on their respective websites and social media channels, so keep an eye out for updates. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a novice, this event is a fantastic opportunity to experience the beauty and history of Canada’s canals while enjoying a day on the water with new friends.
