With help from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Northumberland OPP say they’ve made an arrest following a report of a sexual assault in Brighton.
Back on July 23, 2024, police said they received a report of a sexual assault at a County Road 2 address in the Municipality of Brighton, and that the victim and the accused were known to each other.
Northumberland OPP’s crime unit assisted in the investigation, leading to a warrant being sought for the accused, said police, on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
On Sunday, Aug. 11, OPP said officers were notified by CBSA that the accused had arrived at an international airport and was taken into custody. OPP transported the accused back to Northumberland, said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 31-year-old man from Oshawa was charged with sexual assault.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused will not be named to protect the identity of the victim and will appear in Cobourg court at a future date, said police.
OPP are reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
To report a sexual assault, call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergency, added police.
No other details were released by police.
