An investigation is continuing after a home on County Road 2 in Brighton was ravaged by fire Thursday morning.
Capt. Adam McCurdy with Brighton Fire and Rescue was first on scene the morning of Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024.
“Brighton fire received a call just before 5 o’clock this morning for a house fire. We responded along with Cramahe fire for mutual aid, Northumberland EMS and OPP,” said McCurdy.
Trent Hills fire was also on standby.
The home is a total loss, McCurdy confirmed.
No serious injuries are being reported.
As of mid-morning, crews remained on scene and were anticipated to remain on scene into the afternoon in the County Road 2 area, between Huff Road and Rundle Lane (near Cheer Farms.)
However, the fire was under control – crews were just working on putting out hotspots and watching for any potential flareups at that time.
The investigation is ongoing into the cause of the blaze.
“We do not have a cause at this point – the investigation will be going on throughout the day. We’re working to determine that,” explained McCurdy.
Earlier this morning, emergency crews had both lanes of the road shut down. Before 11 a.m., the eastbound lane had opened, with traffic being filtered in both directions via the one lane.
OPP has said it will issue an update online when the road is fully reopened – Brighton fire anticipates traffic will be down to one lane through the afternoon.
McCurdy commended crews for their quick action to knock down the blaze Thursday.
“Everybody did a great job working together as a county and it all came together.”
