Northumberland OPP say one person has been charged in relation to an alleged assault back in June at Warkworth Institution.
In an update Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, police confirmed a 34-year-old from Loyalist Township was facing charges related to possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault, after the alleged incident back on June 10, 2024, resulted in two individuals being airlifted to hospital.
According to OPP, back on June 10, at about 8:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault involving a number of individuals at the medium-security federal institution.
ORNGE Air subsequently transported one person to a local hospital and another to a Toronto-area hospital, with injuries described as serious, reported OPP.
As a result of their investigation, police said a warrant was issued, and on Sept. 12, OPP arrested one of the parties allegedly involved at the facility.
The accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, said police, on Monday, adding further updates will be provided when available.
