Brighton council has received the latest update on upgrading the municipality’s wastewater treatment system.
Mayor Brian Ostrander tells us they heard from the engineering consultant on the design process and the cost of the two options the town is looking at.
To get the plant up to regulated specs the town is looking at $29 million dollars. Then there’s the option of paying $38 million dollars now to future proof the plant.
Ostrander talks about next steps.
Ostrander says it’s anticipated staff will provide a recommendation on how to proceed and may even have information on what a future-proofed system would look like.
Ostrander says Brighton can’t afford not to at least bring the wastewater treatment system up to government standards.
Regardless which plan Brighton opts for, Ostrander says the town will again apply for government help through the Housing Enabling Water Systems Fund.
Best case scenario, project construction could begin as early is as this spring.
