An investigation is continuing after alleged fail-to-remain crash that sent a pedestrian to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, say Peterborough County OPP.
Peterborough County OPP said emergency crews – including Otonabee South Monaghan fire and EMS – responded to the collision involving a pedestrian on Thursday, Oct. 17, at about 7:25 p.m. on Hwy. 7, east of Henderson Line.
“The vehicle involved was not at the scene when police arrived,” said OPP.
The pedestrian was reportedly transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre by air with life-threatening injuries.
About an hour later – at about 8:20 p.m. – Northumberland OPP received a separate report about a collision involving an animal on Hwy. 401 in Brighton, said police.
However, no animal was reported at the scene, and police said further investigation led to the vehicle being identified and connected to the Peterborough collision.
The Central Region traffic incident management enforcement (TIME) team also responded to the scene on Hwy. 7 to investigate, noted OPP.
The road was closed in both directions between Hwy. 28 and Henderson Line until about 2:40 a.m.
OPP are asking anyone with information relating to their investigation to reach out to police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via www.stopcrimehere.ca.
This story was updated at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, when OPP issued an update saying an individual has not been charged at this time.
