Ontario’s government is rolling out a $200 rebate for taxpayers in its latest effort to support families hit by high interest rates and the federal carbon tax.
Announced in the lead-up to the 2024 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review, this rebate will be available to all eligible taxpayers, with an additional $200 allocated for each eligible child. The measure aims to provide critical relief to families across the province, especially those with children facing mounting expenses.
Premier Doug Ford emphasized the government’s commitment to keeping costs down, stating, “This $200 taxpayer rebate will give Ontario families some much-deserved help so they can make ends meet.” Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy added that the rebates will be mailed in early 2025, projecting a total of $3 billion in support for approximately 12.5 million adults and 2.5 million children.
With revenues bolstered by recent inflation and federal tax changes, Ontario has positioned itself to offer this timely financial support. More details will be available in the Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review, set for release on October 30, 2024.
