An “exciting revival” is underway to bring back the “magic of movies” in Trenton.
People passing by may have noticed a “sold” sign that went up at the mid-1920s theatre downtown Trenton and been wondering about what the future may hold for the property.
Film.Ca Entertainment Corporation has confirmed the historic theatre has a future.
“For decades, the Centre Theatre has been a beloved part of the community, and now, we’re thrilled to announce its grand re-opening as Film.Ca Centre Cinemas this spring,” said Film.Ca Entertainment Corporation CEO Jeff Knoll, in a recent video about the opening, where the corporation is also described as a family-owned business with two other locations in Petawawa and Oakville.
The reopening is slated for this March.
“We believe in making movie-going fun, affordable and community driven and we also know how important it is to preserve the history and charm of a theatre like this one,” said Knoll, who vowed the company would blend modern updates while keeping the cinema’s nostalgic charm and offer up experiences that feel like home.
The company acknowledges the theatre as a cherished landmark in a recent release. In that same release, Knoll referred to the theatre as part of Trenton’s cultural fabric for generations.
“We’re honoured to breathe new life into this historic cinema and continue its tradition of providing an exceptional movie-going experience for the surrounding community. We’re thrilled to add Film.Ca Centre Cinemas to our family of theatres, bringing the magic of the movies back to Trenton.”
However, Knoll also goes on to say that they’ll need help – that they can’t do this alone, and to help bring the theatre back to life they’ve launched an “Indiegogo campaign” to contribute funds to reopening upgrades.
Online, it states there is a $10,000 goal to help with essential safety and lighting, concession, and cosmetic upgrades. The release states independent theatre fans who contribute may also receive exclusive perks.
In the release, it states this marks the latest expansion for the entertainment corporation, which is also described as a “proudly Canadian independent theatre chain known for its community-driven approach and dedication to making moviegoing accessible and fun.”
More information is available online, with further grand-opening festivities and lineups anticipated to be announced in coming weeks.
