Local Fire and Emergency Services are urging residents to stay safe this spring as daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 2 a.m.
In addition to setting your clocks forward one hour, authorities recommend taking a few minutes to test your smoke alarms. With the arrival of warmer weather and increased household activity, ensuring that smoke alarms are functioning properly can provide critical protection during emergencies.
Sarah Potts, Fire Prevention Officer with Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services, advises that simple maintenance such as using the soft brush attachment on your vacuum to remove any accumulated dust from smoke alarms can improve their performance. “Simple, proactive steps can make a significant difference during emergencies and may even save lives,” Potts said.
Residents are reminded that these safety measures are part of a broader set of tips provided by local fire officials to help ensure a safe transition into spring. For more information on safety tips and resources for staying prepared, visit quintewest.ca/BePrepared.
By following these guidelines, individuals can help protect themselves, their families, and their communities during this seasonal change. Stay safe and take action today by checking your smoke alarms and adjusting your clocks in time for daylight saving.
