Most Kawartha, Pine Ridge District School Board schools and childcare centres are set to reopen Wednesday April 2; however, some schools will remain closed due to persisting power outages and storm-related cleanup, say board officials.
The board is encouraging area families to take care when planning kids’ routes to school, as road and sidewalk conditions may vary, in addition to traffic light operations. In discussion with municipal partners, they are also working to deploy crossing guards for schools reopening, note officials.
Here’s the school status by region:
Northumberland/Quinte West: All schools will reopen except: Camborne Public School, Hastings Public School, North Hope Central Public School, Plainville Public School, and Roseneath Centennial Public School.
City and County of Peterborough: All schools will reopen except: Apsley Public School, Buckhorn Public School, Crestwood Intermediate & Crestwood Secondary School, Kenner Intermediate & Kenner Collegiate Vocational School, Lakefield District Public School, North Cavan Public School, North Shore Public School, Norwood District Public School, Norwood Intermediate & Norwood District High School, Queen Mary Public School, Roger Neilson Public School, and Warsaw Public School.
Clarington: All schools and childcare centres open.
The closed schools will remain closed for the entire day, even if power is restored overnight. Staff at closed schools are not required to attend, except for custodians, principals, vice-principals, and some centrally assigned staff who will receive further instructions, notes the board.
Families should check www.stsco.ca for up-to-date bus transportation information.
The board is thanking families for their patience, and utility, municipal and emergency crews for their continued efforts in power restoration and cleanup.
