After responding to a call about a two-vehicle collision in Brighton, Northumberland OPP say a 71-year-old is facing impaired driving charges.
According to OPP, last Thursday, April 17, 2025, just after 9 p.m., police responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Telephone Road, just went of County Road 30.
When officers arrived on scene, police said they found a red Toyota SUV positioned behind a white Chevy SUV. After speaking with the uninjured drivers, police said they suspected that the individual operating the Toyota SUV had been consuming alcohol.
A roadside screening test was administered and allegedly registered a “fail,” resulting in the accused being taken into custody and transported to the Brighton OPP detachment for further testing, reported police.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 71-year-old was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused was released and will appear in Cobourg court on May 21, 2025, reported OPP.
