Conservative candidate Philip Lawrence has been re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Northumberland-Clarke following a close race Monday night.
According to unofficial results, Lawrence earned approximately 49.7 per cent of the vote, narrowly defeating Liberal candidate John Goheen, who captured 45 per cent.
Lawrence, who lives with his wife and two children on a small farm in Orono, was first elected in 2019. A lawyer with a background in tax law and financial services, Lawrence serves as the shadow minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Ontario.
Speaking after his win, Lawrence thanked voters for their support and said he was eager to continue advocating for local residents.
The riding was tightly contested with as few as 150 votes separating Lawrence from Goheen at one point in the evening.
The Liberals have been projected to form a minority government to which Lawrence provided his thoughts.
Official results are expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
